I experienced this on Android version 6 marshmallow and I managed to solve the problem with one of the methods I will be sharing with you today.
DOWNLOAD MANAGER NOT DOWNLOADING FILES
Method 1
CLEAR APP DATA
This method should help by clearing cache data and other data used by the download manager app. To clear app data,
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down and click on Apps
- Select Download Manager
- Click on Storage
- Now Clear cache and Clear data
Try downloading again if it solves the problem.
TURN ON STORAGE PERMISSION
I tried this with the Android Lollipop version, it worked perfectly and Download Manager not downloading problem was gone for good.
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and click on Apps.
- Select Download Manager
- Click on Permissions and Turn ON Storage.
For sure that will help. If not, try using other methods.
RESET APP PREFERENCE
If the download manager seizes to work, it could be as a result of wrong settings and to reset app preference is a better idea to put download manager settings back in place.
- Go to Settings, scroll down and click on Apps
- Click on Three-Dots located at the top right corner of your screen.
- Select Reset App Preference
REINSTALL UPDATE
I know you must have tried the above methods and if it doesn’t resolve the Download Manager error for sure method 4 will.
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and tap on Security(it might be accompanied with ‘&’. I.e Security & Location or Location & Security or might stand-alone), all the same.
- After that, scroll down and turn ON Unknown sources
- Now install the Download manager.
