How To Reduce Data Usage On Android Faster

Most times, it’s often usual to run short of data even before the date of your current Data Plan expiration.
Oh yes, it’s a normal thing. Being online for so long daily can also contribute to the early exhaustion of data. And aside from that, using 3G/4G or even 5G can as well contribute even more to that coz the higher the speed when browsing on data plans the higher its consumption rate.
But the major complaints given by individuals are:

  1. My data keep exhausting even when I’m not using it.
  2. Monthly subscriptions I bought got exhausted less than a week.
  3. Why is my data running down so fast before the expiration date?
And more questions like that which would be answered in the post.

HOW TO REDUCE DATA USAGE ON ANDROID

I will be giving different ways and methods to stop android from using too much data(reduce data usage).

Method 1

MEASURE DATA

This method will help you reduce data usage on android by measuring the limit to which data can be used up too. And to do this you are recommended to set a data limit. This method doesn’t necessarily reduce data usage on android but it helps you track and know the amount of data usage which simply means, when you exceed the targeted data limit your Android device won’t browse or make use of additional data. Now follow the below steps to get this done.

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on Data Usage
  • Select Network Tab
    Select Tab

Now you must make sure your data connections are turned ON. Then proceed…

  • Turn ON Cellular Data Limit
    Set Cellular Data Limit

  • Now drag up/down to set the data limit. See the below screenshot.
    Set Data Limit
As you can see in the above screenshot I set my data limit to 1Gb and warning as 800MB which means I will be informed anytime I used up to 800MB. So it depends on you. You can set yours above or below mine.
Doing this will help you get to know the amount of data you are using while browsing, chatting, or even streaming. Anyways, there are stronger ways to reduce data usage on Android. Kindly read more methods below…

Methods Two

ACTIVATE ‘RESTRICT APP BACKGROUND DATA FEATURE’ OR ‘DATA SAVER’

Restricting background data will help reduce data usage on android in a really big way by stopping other apps from using data aside from the current one. By activating this feature, you are telling your Android device to keep away additional connections. I.e one connection at a time and for sure this will help.

There are two ways to activate this feature. Manually and Automatically.
Activating the data saver manually is to turn it ON on certain apps. While Automatically will Turn ON data saver on every app, including built-in apps. Up to you.
To activate this feature Automatically,
  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Data Usage
  • Click on Three Dots at the top-right corner of your screen.
  • Select Restrict Background Data

    Restrict App Background Data
  • After that, click OK to confirm the activation
Repeat this on all the apps you wish to restrict its Background data. Hope it helps? If not read the next method…

Method Three

MINIMIZE USAGE OF YouTube AND STREAMING SITES ON DATA

Doing this is a better step to reduce data usage on Android. Try your possible best to reduce the usage of streaming sites like YouTube and others when you are on Data Subscriptions. Instead, download YouTube videos for offline watching when on WiFi Network Service. For sure usage of data on Android will be reduced.

Method Four

ACTIVATE CHROME DATA SAVER FEATURE

Turning ON data saver when browsing on chrome can as well reduce data usage on Android. This feature was added by Google on new versions of Chrome browser to help reduce data usage by compressing and speeding up site page loading time.

Below is how to turn ON the data saver on the chrome browser to reduce data usage.
  • Tap on Three-Dots at the top-right corner on a chrome browser screen.
    Click Three Dots
  • Scroll down and tap on Settings
  • Click Data Saver
  • Turn ON the data saver switch, refer to the below screenshot.
    Activate Chrome Data Saver
Looking at the above screenshot you can clearly see that chrome managed to help save 7% after a month. You can now calculate how much data have been saved by looking at the Original Size and After Compression.

Method Five

USE WiFi NETWORK SERVICE WHEN NECESSARY

Making use of WiFi service when necessary can reduce data usage on Android in good ways. Below are some tips to keep this ON.

  1. Set Auto-Update Apps to WiFi only.
  2. Download Large files while on WiFi only.
  3. Stream YouTube and other online Videos on WiFi only.
Keep in mind that, reading the above tips carefully will help you take control of your data. And now I believe this post has answered all your big questions.
